Favorite Places....Tell Me Yours and I'll Tell You Mine!

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to tell me your favorite place. What made it so special? Why is it different than any of your other travels? What are the memories you visit again, and again? Was it a trek in the rain forest? A hike in Nepal?
I would love to hear from you and hope you aren't too tired from too much travel to answer! :) If you haven't physically been there yet, then where do you want to go?

I have to say, Rick has been to so many more places than I have, that he asks me this from time to time. To each of us, it will always be different. Maybe your favorite place keeps changing. That's OK. Pick one. Tell me about it. And I promise next time to tell you mine.

So I have to add, that even though the first comment says it was written by me, it was my hubby Rick. We use the same computer so it comes up as me, but then it sounds like I am writing in third person! Too funny!

  1. Well I would have to say, Antarctica. I travelled down their with my sister, Debbie and Jen. I love the snow and the mountains and just the beauty of nature. The icebergs are absolutely breathtaking. Then to see the wild life, for example on Elephant island there must have been 10s of thousands of penguins. I could have sat there all day watching them.
We crossed the Drake passage on the way down and the crew had said they had never seen it so calm before and was even a little eerie. But on the return trip it all made up for it. The seas were crashing over the top of the ship and I do not think there was any one person left that was not green. Except of coarse, Jen and Debbie, they were painting t-shirts.
I would have to say that my favorite part of the trip was when Jen said "YES" This is where I proposed to her. I had carried the ring around for over a week looking for the right time and right place. Everyplace we stopped or went to was not it. I do have to say that I would have enjoyed the trip much more if I could have asked her earlier on but I wanted it to be just right. It was finally on Faulkland island. We were on a small bluff over looking the ocean and beach area and had, I believe chin strap penguins, running around. She had turned around and when she did, I got down on my knee and proposed. Guess what she said? "Your lying" I did eventually get a yes out of her.
Afterwards we went back into town and was the British Navy hanging at the pub. Once they found out we were engaged then out came the port and the party started. If my memory serves me right, we got lost up in the fun and almost missed our ship. That would have been a completely different story that I am glad I am not telling.
So that, I would have to say is my favorite place that I have been to in the world.

  2. My favorite place would have to be the Andes Mountains in Peru. I traveled there on a mission trip with my church in 2006. It was a life changing adventure. I treasure the amazing memories from that trip.

My favorite thing about the trip seeing the contrast to my life at home in Colorado, and that's what ended up changing my heart. I remember my journey from the heart of Lima to the high peaks of the Andes the best. Lima was crowded, dangerous, dirty, and rough. Beggars were running in between traffic. Some men even jumped onto the back of our truck and tried to steal our luggage in the middle of traffic. As we made our way into the mountains, scenery changed drastically. Emerald green mountains rose out of sight into the clouds, shepherds parted their flocks of llamas and sheep for us to pass through, and children greeted us with curious eyes and shy smiles. The adventures continued. Our team stayed the night at a village with an elevation of 16,500 feet. We visited another village that had never had outside contact. Here is my favorite part, we handed out Bibles, medical supplies, and showed the Jesus Film (which is an amazing story in itself).

    Well, that's my favorite place!
